Bear Creek, Senior Living Center

Updated: Sep 19, 2020

The performers from HomeFront and Music Unite have done it again. They had yet another fabulous performance. On November 9, the HomeFront and Music Unite people went to the Bear Creek Assisted Living senior center.

Instead of the high energy environment the stage gave us, we had a calm environment. But that didn’t affect the performers' energy level. They gave it their all. Who cares if it’s a smaller audience, we should still give in 100% effort. It was clearly shown that that was the mindset of the performers today.

Ever since the “We Are The World” concert, the ideas of future events kept expanding. Throughout all of the brainstorming, a new idea sparked. Instead of the kids receiving the aid, the kids should go out and help others. That proved as a great idea so we organized the first senior center concert with HomeFront.

We had a couple of the same performances, and even though the kids had done it before, I still felt all of the energy. We had the two group numbers, We Are The World and Surrounded, and I’ll find you. Unfortunately, Shakira was absent because of the flu, but nonetheless, Alexus and Salihah did an amazing job on covering for her. Despite Shakira being absent, Izaiah still did an amazing job as always. We also had Catherine and Amanda’s Happy Heart.

We also enjoyed the other performances. Anvitha’s “She Used To Be Mine”, Vika’s “Watch”, Will’s “Hallelujah”, Catherine’s “For Forever”, Amanda’s “Evermore”, and Kayla’s “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”.

A big highlight of this concert was when we asked the residents for their words of wisdom. They said to never give up, to have courage, and to be brave. One of the advice that really stuck with me was from a lady named Grace, who said that you should follow your heart. I think that these messages really adhered to all of us.

Chris, the director of Joy, Hopes, and Dreams, said that it was really another successful performance. He really brought up the energy from the residents by making jokes with them and making them laugh. He really was a cornerstone of our concert. Rachel, the event coordinator of Bear Creek, said that she was “in tears a couple of times during the performance.” Even though the stage may not have been as big, the kids still enjoyed it nonetheless, and we will continue to bring them around and perform.
